Andy Warhols „Campbell’s Soup Cans“ is a symbol for the uniformity of a consumer-oriented society but also for „consumption equality“ … saying that all people – rich and poor – should be able to afford basic goods that contribute to their well-being and therefore be allowed to participate as equal members of society… in short: equal rights reflected in consumption.
But: Consumer equality as well as affordabilty are under pressure worldwide, primarily due to growing income and wealth inequality with consequences for personal dignity and participation. As a contemporary, current interpretation of Warhol’s work, this piece from my ongoing series “weDrown” aims to draw attention to this alarming development. Human rights are universally valid and cannot be separated. Therefore my concept series „weDrown“ asks the question: What is humanity leaving behind? With “weDrown” I would like to focus on the alarming development of basic human freedoms worldwide.
